Christianity and politics – two topics best associated with a handshake. A handshake speaks of an engagement resulting in mutual agreement to the altruistic benefit of all involved. This agreement is not a watering down of convictions so as to simply meet a common ground. There are times for the righteous to stand and be heard, to “be known” by the result of their actions. There are times for the likes of Jehu, Elijah, Elisha, Deborah, and Shammah (not to overlook America’s Founding Fathers) who said “No More,” after having a ‘Popeye Moment’. In all the affairs of mankind, the fruit of character, mutual respect with conviction, resolve, and courage have always reigned supreme.
Every nation’s history holds stories of righteous conflict but even the ways of warriors should be governed by the character of the noble and shuns the ways of darkness. History is our classroom and the future is our workplace. As God is sought, found are His Word, His Will, and His Way. In this process He releases Way-Makers.
Scripture, both Old and New Testament, reveals wisdom to live by, historic accounts to guide ones choice, develop character, and foster understanding in order for each of us to build and steward humanity well, and even transform nations and culture by our actions. Christians are simply those who trust and follow the teachings of Christ who alone is the world’s Answer to life’s problems and the greatest single source of Hope.
